If you're searching for an extra special gift this Christmas, then look no further than Made in Greenwich where you'll find a unique collaboration between GCDA, The Autism Project (TAP) and one of the borough's leading ceramicists, Fiona Veacock.
Fiona worked alongside TAP students to help them create a stunning range of glazed stoneware vessels that can be used in a wide variety of ways. The unique pieces (branded Curious Creations by the students themselves) are being stocked at Made in Greenwich in the run up to Christmas, with each sale raising much-needed funds for TAP.
"It was a real pleasure for me to collaborate with TAP students on this project. The work is of an extremely high quality with each piece displaying a beautiful hand-stamped design unique to each maker. I'm really proud of what we achieved together. " Fiona Veacock
The Autism Project is run by CareTrade, a London-based charity that seeks to address the lack of employment opportunities for neurodiverse adults. TAP focuses specifically on young people and offers a two-year employment programme designed to support independent living. GCDA staff from Made in Greenwich worked with TAP to develop a tailor-made programme to deepen students' creative reach, help them explore product development and enable them to experience a wide variety of retail-related roles such as customer service, socia media/PR and curation.
"This is our second year working with MIG, and it has been a fantastic opportunity. Our students have had the chance to work alongside experienced craftspeople whilst improving their communication, confidence and teamworking skills. They've been totally involved in the development of their products from start to finish and they're looking forward to the pop-up event at Made in Greenwich where they'll sell their Curious Creations to customers in a real retail environment." Sandra Fergus, SkillUp Tutor, TAP
You can meet the students in person at their pop-up shop at Made in Greenwich on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December, whilst their work will be on sale at Made in Greenwich from November 29th. If you have a specific enquiry or want to reserve a piece, please email maryjane@gcda.org.uk
Small vessels are priced at £20.00 and the large vessels at £25.00
