About the event
This is a one session class of up to eight people, held after shop hours in the workshop space at the fabulous Made In Greenwich gallery shop; Creek Road, Greenwich SE10. We will be using the traditional technique of sgrafitto to create hand drawn designs on pre-made hand built plates.
I will  introduce you to the tools, colours & techniques we will be using and explain the pre-making of the black clay plate which will have a white base coat of slip applied. Using a combination of slips (opaque liquid clays with colour) and stains (transparent colours) you'll practice tools on a tile & then pencil your plan, paint your colour on in layers and then draw line work through to the black clay. You'll have a chance to work out some ideas before you come so don't worry about that blank space & lettering works well too.
It's a quiet calm evening with companionable focussed work. As you finish I will take your plates back to my studio, dry them carefully and first fire, remove any burrs, clear glaze to stoneware temperature & return to Made In Greenwich.
*Price includes the session, pre-made handbuilt stoneware plate & use of tools, my finishing work after bisque, & glazing* You’ll return to Made In Greenwich 3-4 weeks later to collect your work.
Use your evening making that special present, trying out that pattern you've always enjoyed, or doodling!
