About the event
AFRICA FASHION SERIES: HEADWRAP WORKSHOP 1
NB this workshop is for those who have some machine sewing experience. It is not for absolute beginners.
Come and make a gorgeous patchwork headwrap using a mix of African and European textiles during this day long FREE Â sewing workshop with GCDA. The workshop is part of GCDA's new Black History 365 Africa Fashion series celebrating African, Carribean and African diaspora fashion.
During the workshop, participants will learn how to sew a beautiful patchworked headwrap and will then experiment with a range of tying styles. We hope the experience will capture some original stories and encourage multicultural dialogue as well as sharpen up your sewing skills!Â
Materials will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring along some pre-loved fabrics with a story to tell which they can incorporate into their design. Examples include old shirts, pillowcases, children's clothes etc. Please let us know if you wish to bring your own sewing machine.Â
NB Please note that whilst you may take your finished headwrap home with you, you will be invited to take part in a celebratory fashion exhibition and catwalk show which will be held in July 2024. Photographs will also be taken during the workshop for use in the exhibition.
Our Africa Fashion series is funded by Royal Borough of Greenwich.
This event will be held at Woolwich Front Room NOT at Made in Greenwich
